Herd Manager at Goat Dairy

Have you ever wanted to work with goats? Barn First Creamery in Westfield is looking for a herd manager and milker for our herd of 150 Alpine dairy goats.

The good news? You don't have to know anything about farming or milking or goats - you just have to be willing to work hard, be responsible and be a part of our team.

We are a family farm producing artisan and award winning cheese and shipping milk to Vermont Creamery. We milk approximately 96 goats and graze them on pasture during the warmer months. We are committed to having healthy and high producing animals - we consider our herd one of the best in the Northeast.

Job description:

Salary: $33,000 - $35,000 – paid weekly

Six weeks paid time off (!), consisting of:

Paid Personal Days: 10 Days (Blackout Periods: March)

Paid Vacation: 12/25 – 1/6 (Two weeks. Dates approximate)

2/14 – 2/28 (Two weeks. Dates approximate)

Regular Work Schedule:

Four Days per Week – 11:00 am – 8:00 pm (or end of milking)

Lunch/Personal Break: 1hr

Irregular Work Weeks:

March/Kidding Season– Up to 7 Days, as needed

January & February/Dry Season – As Needed

Extra shifts during to cover other employee's vacation, with minimum one month’s notice.

Extra hours during haying season. No more than 8 per week.

Responsibilities:

Feeding goats, milking, light vet work, pasture maintenance, various other tasks related to farming.

MUST BE:

- Able to work in a physically demanding environment.

- Lift 50 lbs.

- Get to work with reliable transportation.

- Try hard, be accountable and be a good member of our team.
