Better.SCOPE OF POSITION:Develops and maintains economical and efficient transportation service, including the rating and routing of outbound shipments. Works with supervisors to prioritize and assign packaging responsibilities for jobs released to Shipping. Leads and gives direction to workers when needed. Responsible for traffic planning and transportation arrangements for both domestic and export shipments as needed. Performs other duties essential to continuous and efficient production within the department, as assigned by supervisor.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Contacts various transportation companies to requisition proper vehicles for shipping needs.
Coordinates the routing of outbound and inbound shipments.
Keeps informed of current transportation services and rates to assure economical and efficient transportation.
Compiles schedules of existing rates and routes for analysis of possible savings in transportation costs.
Determines rates and classifications applicable to various types of merchandise and products shipped.
Personally investigates and initiates necessary claim actions for damaged, misdirected, or lost shipments and follows procedures to obtain most favorable settlement and conclusion.
Initiates investigations of damages or shortages in consignments.
Maintains compliance with Company policies, safety standards, and good housekeeping practices.
Comments on performance evaluations of all subordinates when asked by supervisor.
Responsible for monitoring activity of personnel in shipping to ensure assigned jobs are being worked on. Follows up with anyone not performing assigned tasks and, if necessary, reports back to supervisor.
Ensures that material for outbound purchase orders are shipped out to meet designated shipping date.
Responsible for investigating and answering inquiries as to status of “in shipping” jobs.
Responsible for monitoring the safe conditions of work and storage areas.
Assists in achieving maximum efficiency and productivity of group personnel.
Encourages efficient utilization of equipment and facilities. Assists in ensuring that work group has necessary resources to complete requirements.
Performs continuous quality control inspections of own work.
Ensures all required housekeeping is performed per established schedule. Holds individuals accountable for areas not maintained.
Coordinates storage of on hold jobs located in shipping.
Completes necessary paperwork (bills of lading) required to move freight.
Maintains familiarity with current hazardous material regulations affecting ground shipments in order to accurately complete shipping paperwork for such products. Works with Environmental and Safety Engineer to ensure that hazardous material shipping form the facility is properly marked and paperwork is completed correctly and accurately.
Assists in maintaining basic production or output records and updates information systems as required.
Assists in auditing of completed packing lists submitted by crater/packers for shipping. Verifies that material is on the correct truck and that information pertaining to the shipment is correct. Verifies that job numbers/address labels match bill of lading information. This verification should be done for at least 60% of jobs shipping. Follows up on any discrepancies or inaccuracies in paperwork received from crater/packers in order to accurately complete bills of lading. Assists and instructs others as necessary.
Contacts carriers when necessary to set up priority or guaranteed shipments. Properly documents arrangements made on the bill of lading per each carrier’s requirements.
Assists in training of work group. Assists in identifying training needs and provides technical assistance and training when necessary. Helps facilitate the group process both in meetings and in daily operations. Provides feedback and coaching for group. Assists in developing individual group members and the entire group in group process, team dynamics, basic quality tools, and problem solving models and techniques.
Interfaces with other departments as necessary. Builds rapport with other organizational units and individuals critical to the group’s success.
Refers unusual conditions or non-routine problems to supervisor.
Assures quality of work through accuracy, neatness, paying attention to details, thorough understanding of information, with minimal amount of rework. Conveys personal commitment to quality by demonstrating good quality behavior. Identifies and acts upon opportunities to improve quality of material or process
Ensure that hazardous material and waste handling is conducted within the guidelines of the training provided.
Ensures conformance to all aspects of the ISO 14001 standard and Construction Specialties’ Environmental Management System (EMS), including its environmental policy while performing job functions that may have a significant impact on the environment.

QualificationsKNOWLEDGE/ SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE/ EDUCATION: (Minimum Education and/or Experience required)
Associates degree (A.A.) in Business or Industrial Management or equivalent from two-year college or technical school, and three or more years related experience and/or training/including supervision, scheduling, business math, data processing and office procedures; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Education/experience should include knowledge of a manufacturing environment.
Will require training with respect to guidelines for hazardous material and waste handling within six (6) months of hire and annually thereafter.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; stand; walk; talk; hear; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, climb or balance, and taste or smell.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
