Job Summary:

The Crew Leader/Climber plays a key role in leading a 3-person team, ensuring safe and efficient job execution. This position requires both hands-on work and the ability to delegate responsibilities, balancing safety, efficiency, and client communication.

A Crew Leader is responsible for planning daily operations, overseeing crew performance, and serving as the primary point of contact for customers. At the end of each job, they ensure all work is completed, documented, and communicated with both the customer and the office.

This is a physically demanding role that requires a strong work ethic and a positive attitude—rain or shine, through brush piles, buzzing bees, and tired coworkers. But for the right person, it’s also one of the most rewarding and exciting positions on the team.

Key Responsibilities:

Job Preparation & Execution

Review and understand the daily work order before leaving the lot, seeking clarification if needed.

Conduct pre-departure equipment checks: ensure all gear is properly fueled, stocked, and ready for use (chippers, mini skid steers, chip trucks, batteries, etc.).

Adhere to all company safety protocols and operational procedures.

Crew & Worksite Management

Provide ground support for climbing operations: setting lines, orchestrating ground-level pruning, and preparing equipment for smooth job transitions.

Maintain worksite safety and security, including proper vehicle parking, traffic signage, and cone placement.

Keep the team motivated and productive, fostering clear communication among crew members and customers.

Ensure proper cleanup and job completion documentation before leaving a site.

Ongoing Learning & Professionalism

Maintain a continuous learning mindset, maximizing opportunities for skill growth.

Assist in equipment and vehicle maintenance, ensuring all tools remain in top condition.

Represent the company professionally in all customer interactions.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

Proficiency in at least one climbing system, with the ability to reach working height in a variety of tree species.

Familiarity with, or willingness to learn, rigging techniques for safe and effective removals.

Experience operating a mini-skid machine (e.g., Ditch Witch SK1550) is a plus, but training will be provided.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, ensuring all tools and machinery are properly maintained.

Adherence to all personal protective equipment (PPE) protocols, ensuring team compliance as well.

Punctuality and reliability—crew members count on you to lead by example.

If you’re passionate about tree work, thrive in a leadership role, and want to grow with a skilled and motivated team, we’d love to hear from you!
