The work this person does will have a substantial impact on financial operations and reporting for our agency.The ideal candidate will care deeply about our mission and our participants. This person will have a strong background in financial accounting and reporting, ideally both for GASB and FASB organizations. You should be comfortable working with deadlines and with auditors and be able to articulate and defend the integrity of your product and workpapers. Applicants should be comfortable leading and supervising a team in efforts to accomplish the goals of the Finance Department and the agency. Experience with creating and maintaining budgets and supervision experience. ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Deputy Director of Finance, the Controller will work to ensure that all financial information produced by the agency is accurate and complies with ongoing and changing requirements. You will have hands-on responsibility for preparing annual agency financial reports in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and following Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements. You will prepare and oversee production of other financial statements and prepare and provide guidance to others in preparation of general ledger and other transactions. You will prepare or oversee preparation of quarterly financial statements for multiple programs in agreement with GASB or Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) as required. You will conduct research and implement new initiatives as needed and ensure the agency complies with all relevant laws and regulations. You will provide mentorship to other staff and guide them in these efforts. You will work with others to develop and document new processes as needed. Minimum Requirements· At least five years of paid work experience in accounting and financial reporting. Experience in a housing authority, property management, or government environment is preferred. · At least five years of paid work experience demonstrating a lead role in complex financial reporting, preferably both in GASB and FASB organizations. · At least five years of paid work experience successfully supervising financial staff· Solid understanding of principles and practices of modern fiscal management and accounting standards, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), GASB, and FASB requirements. Understanding audit standards is advantageous.· Strong ability and knowledge of computers, including financial software and Office 365. Strong ability in Excel. Experience in Yardi is beneficial.· Ability to read, understand, and apply applicable laws and regulations as well as accounting standards relevant to our agency.· Understanding of budget preparation and budget controls.
