POSITION SUMMARY: A non-sworn security position responsible for patrolling the campus in a vehicle and on foot to provide a uniformed building security presence. This position represents a visible element of public safety. The person in this position has been identified as a Campus Security Authority and Responsible Employee for Clery and Title IX purposes respectively, the employee will maintain current training and comply with the responsibilities of both titles.JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Door Lock/Unlock 75%Complete scheduled rounds in buildings to lock/unlock, turn lights on/off, and be aware of general security concerns. Utilize department keys and radio during shift to perform duties and maintain communication with other department employees.Conduct tests of door monitoring systems.Check temperatures in coolers and freezers across campus.Maintain knowledge of the fire panel system and fire watch responsibilities.Other duties as needed.Assist URPD Officers 10%Recognize dangerous or suspicious situations and report incidents to the on-duty supervisor. Generally, understand and report violations of state law, and university rules and regulations.Report discrepancies in building security, safety, or utility conditions to the on-duty Communications Officer.Special Events 15% Assist with event parking, crowd management, and other related duties and activities as assigned. This task frequently involves the management of traffic cones.CONTACTS: Internal: Direct supervisor and other members of the Department of Public Safety.External: Students, faculty, staff, and visitors to the University.SUPERVISION EXERCISEDNone, but may be asked to assist in training new security officers.CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL WORKING EFFORT: Ability to move traffic cones (approx. six pounds each) for special events.Must maintain appropriate physical standards including agility, physical strength, and stamina. (for example: must pass physical agility test).Must be able to work in all weather conditions. Position is considered essential for severe weather incidents that impact campus.Be able to work a set shift day or night to include weekends and holidays.QUALIFICATIONS:Knowledge, skills & ability: Understand policy, follow given written and verbal instructions.Remain alert, detect issues, odors (gas, fire. etc.) and react within policy.Maintain physical conditioning and training to perform the functions of the job.Knowledge and ability to operate University owned vehicles.Obtain and maintain CPR certification within 6 months of hire.Complete and maintain DCJS Campus Security Officer certification.Driving history must meet University standards.Education & experience: High school diploma or GED required.2 years of security experience preferredWORK HOURS:Full Time Non-ExemptNightshift 8pm-8am. Two week rotation working M, Tu, F, Sa, Su, W, Th.SALARY STRUCTURE:Pay Grade 3 (Hiring Range $19.00 to $22.69 per hour)
