Local Nonprofit Seeking Part-Time Receiving Associate

BRING is looking for a part-time dedicated Receiving Associate to work weekends only both on-site at BRING, and at a new off-site location at the Glenwood Transfer Station. The Receiving Associate will advance BRING’s mission of diverting reusable materials back into the hands of the community. This Associate's main duties will include screening, accepting, and loading reusable building materials onto the BRING truck based on pre-set criteria. This position does require lifting, basic organizational skills and good customer service. Extensive training will be provided. Hours will generally be split between the BRING facility and the Glenwood Transfer Station, however, there may be times during the summer months when two days per weekend will be dedicated to the Glenwood Transfer Station.

Associates help customers in the retail sales and receiving areas; organize used building and industrial materials for resale; drive BRING vehicles to pick up materials in the Eugene/Springfield Metro area; and perform other duties as required. Associates represent BRING in public, often as the organization’s primary point of contact. Associates may supervise volunteer groups and individuals. Associates work with the Assistant Manager(s) and Director of Retail. Associates report to the Director of Retail.

RESPONSIBILITIES

RECEIVING AREA

Welcome and assist customers in the donation receiving area.

Provide general product availability and average price range by phone and in person.

Provide recycling and disposal referrals and information by phone and in person.

Assist to pick up materials in BRING vehicles from private homes, businesses and other agencies.

Provide donation receipts to customers.

Unload incoming materials from individuals, businesses and BRING vehicles.

Evaluate incoming materials for reuse potential.

Price and prepare materials to be moved to sales area.

Organize materials safely and neatly in the receiving area.

Scrap out items not suitable for resale, recovering recyclable materials and minimizing trash.

Take pride and ownership in the appearance and functioning of the receiving area.

Inform Manager of problems in the receiving area.

OFF-SITE DONATION ATTENDANT

Greet donors in a prompt, friendly, and courteous manner; ensure donors receive assistance.

When unloading donations, offer tax receipts and donation coupons.

Ensure proper accuracy of donor tracking and counts.

Receive only materials that are appropriate to BRING; training will be provided.

Adhere to the materials guidelines as outlined and be respectful of other donation organizations.

Be responsible for the stewardship of all donated items, ensuring that donations remain property of BRING, and that donations are not used in a personal nature as they are guided through the process.

Operate vehicle equipment with care; report any problems to Director of Operations.

Maintain drive-through site in accordance with image and safety standards. Be respectful of the site, we are guests.

Follow good safety and security practices. Adhere to proper handling of materials and equipment. Communicate any safety hazards and injuries to a Manager, Director of Retail, or Director of Operations.

SAFETY

Maintain a safe environment for customers and workers.

Alert Manager and other workers to safety hazards.

Operate vehicles and other equipment safely in accordance with safety policies.

Use safety equipment in accordance with safety policies.

Report injuries to Manager as soon as possible, and complete required forms.

GENERAL DUTIES

Keep work areas and grounds neat and clean.

Perform maintenance as required/inform Manager of maintenance issues.

Do routine paperwork.

Recycle properly.

Supervise CS Workers and volunteers, as needed.

Complete other tasks as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE

BRING’s programs, functions, goals, and policies.

Building materials, prices, values, and reuse potential.

Community recycling information and recycling information specific to BRING’s waste stream.

SKILLS

Excellent customer service skills.

Pleasant telephone manner.

Operate equipment including forklift, truck with trailer.

Basic computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Web programs).

Operate POS.

ABILITIES

To prioritize tasks and activities appropriately.

To deal with the general public in a friendly and helpful manner.

To complete routine paperwork accurately.

To work independently with minimal supervision.

To work as a team member.

To lift up to 50lbs, perform heavy physical labor, and work in outdoor conditions year-round.

OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Attend paid crew meetings, including those outside assigned work hours.

Wear the uniform provided by BRING at all times.

Always wear approved work boots/shoes.

Keep an accurate daily timecard.

Be punctual and reliable.

Maintain valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.
