Reports To: Owner, Foreman

Classification: Seasonal-Part-time

Salary: Hourly, DOE

Working Hours: Varies, Normally 40 hours per week

Summary: This is an entry level position for an individual who will work primarily in collaboration with the owner/ foreman in an outside environment and occasionally inside if necessary. The main focus is landscape or ground maintenance of property, using hand or power tools or equipment. Worker(s) typically perform a variety of tasks, which may include any combination of the following: sod laying, mowing, trimming, planting, watering, fertilizing, digging, raking and sprinkler installation/maintenance.

Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities:

Performs tasks that are necessary to keep maintenance agreements in order, and equipment clean, organized and safe.

Performs functions and routine landscape maintenance activities as directed by supervisor(s):

Care for established lawns by mowing, mulching, aerating, weeding, trimming and edging around flower beds, walks and walls.

Plant spec material.

Follow planned landscaping designs to determine where to lay sod, sow grass, or plant flowers and foliage.

Gather and remove litter.

Haul or spread topsoil, bark chips, rocks.

Help maintain irrigation systems.

Prune and trim trees, shrubs, and hedges using shears, pruners, or chain saws.

Rake and remove yard debris.

Install boulders, ponds, decks, drainage systems, irrigation systems, retaining walls, fences, planters.

Shovel snow from sidewalks and driveways.

Digging that pertains to fencing, planting and removal of unwanted debris.

Become thoroughly trained in the proper procedures required to perform each task before performing each task.

Inspect all equipment and tools that are assigned for your tasks and report any deficiencies directly to the owner.

Standard equipment and functions:

Rotary mower operations.

Line trimmer.

Edger.

Sod cutter and sod laying.

Utility vehicle operation.

Blower operation.

Rototiller operations.

Fertilizer spreaders (both drop and broadcast).

Normal Hand tool operations:

Shovels

Rakes

Pruning saws

Hedge and brush trimmers

Axes

Knowledge and Skills:

Must possess good organizational skills.

Ability to use logical thinking to solve problems.

Ability to carry out detailed written or verbal instructions independently.

Ability to inspect properties to make normal decisions based on direction from supervisors.

Need to be able to operate a motor vehicle and standard equipment listed above.

License Requirement:

Need to have a valid driver’s license.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to perform heavy physical labor. May be required to work in an environment that includes such activities as bending, lifting, stooping, kneeling, climbing, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and grasping for up to 5 hours without sitting. May need to lift up to 100 lbs. occasionally and up to 50 lbs. frequently.

Working Conditions:

Work primarily outdoors. Potential exposure to inclement weather, hazards associated with being around equipment, fertilizer and pesticides.
