Hiring Automotive Shop Hand
California, San francisco bay area 00000 San francisco bay area USA

NOTE: This is an entry-level position suited for young adults looking to pursue the automotive or mechanical repair trade who are currently enrolled in the SRJC automotive service technology classes or intends to pursue them in the immediate future. Alternatively this is a good position for a semi-retired former mechanic, or machinist or skilled trades person who misses working in a small shop business with a good team. This position does not offer an independent living wage in Sonoma County, and this will reflect entirely on our interview and hiring decision.

About Us:

My son Zack found that we enjoyed spending time together working on my sports cars when he was a teenager. One lucky day I asked to borrow my son's old Dodge pickup for a dump run, and he was forced to drive my old BMW 325is to school. I never got the car back - he changed social groups, and was the cool car guy from that day forward. One good decision after another, and ten years of hard work (and lots of help) and we now have two small auto repair businesses here in Sonoma County. We are a team of six currently.

We are BMW guys in our hearts but primarily work on Toyota, Mazda, Honda, Lexus, Acura, Nissan, GM/Chevy, and Ford vehicles. We work on major and moderate repairs every day of the week and use science and technology every day. We do not guess. We document and test and write results down on every job.

What We Need:

We are looking for another helper and shop hand. Some times we need you to deliver customers or their cars. Sometimes we need you to run to the machine shop in Santa Rosa, or pickup parts, or ferry something or someone between the shops. Mostly you'll be around the mechanics and the shop, cleaning and organizing and helping. The more likable and helpful you are, the more the mechanics will show a return interest in you and teaching you as they go. We all learn with the Socratic method here which involves asking lots of questions and determining the right answer. We're all at different points on the curve and you'll need to show up ready to learn and willing to get your hands dirty.

About You:

You should be living at home, or with family. You might be managing to live with room mates. You should be ready to learn and work, and want to be develop your strengths. We are not interested in developing your weaknesses, but it helps if you can clearly articulate what you believe them to be. You will not be taught bad habits, nor will you be allowed to develop lazy thinking. If you're interested in why systems break down, this is a good fit for you.

You must have:

A high school diploma

A clean drivers license

A vehicle of your own

Good phone-use discipline

Basic understanding of how to conduct cleaning, organizing and scheduling your work life

You should have:

The will and drive to show up in person and speak to us directly, don't text

A single page resume or brief work history or schooling history, including any sports or extracurricular activities - it mainly needs to have your contact information and address on it so we can connect with you after the interview

A single work or school reference willing to speak on your behalf

Any certificates or qualifications, bring them with you if relevant

Proper work attire and shoes, uniform and equipment will be provided
