Part-time Winery Events Host
We are a beautiful, unique, urban winery in Redwood City looking for help staffing our growing number of corporate and private events.
To help you see if this fits with your search, here are the background details of this role and our events:
- The Host we're looking for will be available for around 1-2 events a week, sometimes more (holidays) and sometimes less (Sept/Oct harvest time) while being our core Host for any weekday daytime events.
- We typically have around 2 private events a week, rising to around 7 a week for the holiday season.
- We have a team of 6 part-time Hosts and a mixture of weekday daytime, weekday evening and weekend events.
- The daytime events vary each time, but may for example start with you opening up for a 10am load-in and setup with guests there from 12pm to to around 3pm before clear up and load-out.
- The evening events also vary, but typically involve load-in at 4 or 5pm, with guests there from 6 or 7pm until 10pm (sometimes later) before clear up and load-out.
- Some weeks there may be no events for you, others there may be two or more events at various times for you - it varies enormously so this is not suitable for someone who must have a certain number of hours per week.
This is a perfect part-time role or second job for people wanting extra money and activity beyond their other work/studies/responsibilities, particularly for those interested in people and wine.
There is also an ‘event coordinator’ position available that we’re posting another ad for, which may offer further hours & responsibilities if that suits your needs and availability. That role is to help the Event Director and client after the event contract is signed, to organize the details of the event and make them happen (from a client meeting/call & handover from the Director, including a templated set of instructions for the Host of the event, and finally some follow–up after the event).
For the host role, we're looking for someone with an engaging personality who can host a crowd and animate people's interest in our wines. The ideal person is able to work and learn quickly enough to professionally welcome guests, is comfortable with talking to a crowd to explain the history of the winery and learning to briefly describe the wines being served, then answer simple questions while pouring wine and keeping the event flowing, and while taking responsibility for the venue, load in, guest satisfaction and close.
Requirements:
Flexible schedule to be available for weekday daytimes or evenings and some weekends.
Ability to talk to large groups comfortably
Interested in learning more about wine
Excellent hosting skills and manners, can-do attitude for any task or opportunity
Proactive, Fast-working, Organized, Dependable, Stylish, Non-smoker
Lives close to the Redwood City winery (15 miles or less)
Happy moving some tables, chairs, etc and occasionally moving 50lb cases of wine to the bar.
This is an hourly position ($20/hr plus typical 20% bar gratuities) with varying hours per week according to the number of events and the level of energy & professionalism shown.
