Earthwork Excavator Operator – Residential Utilities
We are a residential builder based in Kirkland, WA, specializing in high-quality single-family and
small-scale community developments. We are seeking an experienced Earthwork Excavator
Operator with strong residential utility installation experience to join our growing team. This
position is ideal for someone who takes pride in precision work, values safety, and thrives in a
fast-paced residential construction environment.
Position Overview
The Excavator Operator will be responsible for performing earthwork operations and installing
residential underground utilities. This includes sewer, storm, water, main extensions, and dry
utilities such as power and gas conduit. The ideal candidate is reliable, detail-oriented, and
experienced with tight-site residential excavation.
Responsibilities
Operate excavators and other heavy equipment for residential earthwork and utility trenching.
Install a variety of underground utilities including: Sewer service and main connections; Storm drainage systems; Waterlines and meter assemblies; Main extensions for public or private utilities; Power, communications, and gas conduit systems.
Perform fine grading, backfilling, and site preparation.
Read and follow plans, blueprints, and grade stakes.
Ensure trenches and excavations meet safety and code requirements.
Coordinate with site supervisors, subcontractors, and inspectors.
Conduct daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work site.
Qualifications
3+ years of experience operating excavators in residential construction.
Strong utility installation background (sewer, storm, water, conduit, etc.).
Ability to read site plans and understand elevations.
Experience working on tight residential lots or infill projects.
Knowledge of WA state and local utility installation standards (preferred).
Valid driver’s license; CDL a plus.
Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work outdoors in all weather.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
