Morning baker, soup maker, and meats cook
Now hiring a part-time prep kitchen baker and cook for Goose Hollow Inn, an established Portland tavern and coffee house owned and operated by the Clark family and an awesome, dedicated staff.
Our goal is to hire a cook with efficient, safe knife handling skills, the ability to read and follow recipes and directions, the skill and desire to work both independently/autonomously as well as with others in a kitchen, and last but not least, a good sense of taste. You will need to produce a lot of product while balancing the other aspects of the position (cleaning, stocking, and safety), so having a clear mind, multi-tasking skills, and prep kitchen experience is important for our mutual success.
The job is for a part-time baker/cook/soup maker position on Monday and Tuesday mornings into the afternoons, approximately 8 hours a day, 6-2. Preferred candidates will also have some availability other days of the week for immediate training as well as for ongoing subbing. We understand that because of the part-time nature of this offered position, the new hire will likely have another job.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Baking for our coffee house (e.g. banana and harvest quick breads, turnovers, sweet roll dough/twists, muffins, bars and cookies)
Cooking meats
Making the daily soup from scratch (recipes provided, but trying new ones is encouraged)
Making quinoa beet salad
Laundry (washing, drying, folding towels)
Receiving and stocking deliveries
Following recipes and daily regimens
General kitchen care/clean-up/maintenance
Being a good team player and communicator.
The prep kitchen is located in the basement of a house built in the early 1900s. The food is brought to the coffee house upstairs and across the parking lot to the tavern. The setting is vintage, historical, antique for this legacy Portland operation. We are looking for someone who would enjoy and thrive in our environment; someone who is looking to learn and grow with us.
Please send a cover letter, resume, and three references to Rachel at the email relay. The resume can be informal, but please list relevant experience, even if it's from your own home kitchen. Training to begin as soon as possible (you will need at least three available days to train between Wednesdays and Sundays. Food handler card required.
