Job Description

The HR Manager serves as the leader for the entire department’s needs and responsibilities. We are seeking a well-qualified person who is willing to dive into HR tasks at all levels. The ultimate goal is compliance and risk control.

  • Partner with the executive team to define department objectives and goals. Access progress periodically and make adjustments as business needs.
  • Evaluate organizational practices for compliance with laws, rules, and policies; change and implement any existing practice to comply with regulatory requirements. Areas include the entire HR life cycle not limited to onboarding documentation, mid-employment evaluations, and termination.
  • Develop, implement, and manage an internal HR auditing program.
  • Provide guidance and educate operations on performance management and corrective actions. Ensures that performance evaluations occur periodically.
  • Develop an operations management training program that incorporates necessary HR components for continued development.
  • Perform organizational health checks during all opportunities not limited to 30-day reviews, exit interviews, and random employee surveys. Review results and develop plans for continuous improvement.
  • Develop and nurture relationships across the organization that influence and support the culture.
  • Manage employee grievances. Communicate and respond to complaints by active and former employees, agencies, and attorneys.
  • Serve as the company representative in mandated hearings, if necessary.
  • Manage and keep all files organized both physically and electronically.
  • Maintain department data; weekly reporting on the department’s performance.
  • Promote a work environment that embraces diversity and inclusion in its workforce and where differences are valued.
  • Serve as administrator of the company’s HRIS.
  • Collaborate with external HR consultant on risk management (Workers’ Compensation claims management & Light-Duty program management).
  • Manage company health benefits.
  • Support the recruiting team during peak hiring season.
  • Serve as backup for payroll processing, when required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in an HR-related role.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in an HR management role.
  • Professional HR Certification (SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP) required.
  • Extensive knowledge of Federal, State, and local laws, not limited to LOA, WA PFLA, payroll, and upcoming changes.
  • Knowledge of multi-state laws; WA, CA, OR, UT, and NV preferred.
  • Experience working in a blue-collar industry – trucking or warehousing, preferred.
  • Must have advanced proficiency with Microsoft Suite, specifically Excel; SharePoint is a plus.
  • Extensive experience in administering an HRIS.
  • A proven track record in developing and implementing best practices through structured policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Skilled in providing legally defensible advice and opinions to applicants, existing employees, supervisors, and managers.
  • Demonstrates behaviors that reflect sound judgment, fairness, respect, and inclusiveness.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills; ability to work productively at all levels under challenging conditions.
  • Self-starter; must be able to work independently.
  • Must have a sense of humor

Additional Information

Job Type:Full-Time, Exempt

Salary:$80k - $90; the salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
