POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Shipping &Receiving Clerk will be responsible for working and collaborating with other team members to receive, store, prepare shipments, issue and deliver goods, tools and supplies, maintain inventory control, and perform required inventory transactions.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare items for shipment, confirm identifying information and verify against bills of lading, invoices, orders, etc.
Affix labels on outgoing packages complying with all shipping regulations
Operate both FedEx and UPS shipping software to fill out bills of lading for each shipment
Place calls and answer phones to schedule and coordinate pickups/deliveries
Update shipping tickets in company software, Excel and other communications tools.
Monitoring package shipments, handle and trace freight claims for items damaged in transit. Act as key interface between operations, customers, and carriers
Maintain inventory of shipping materials and supplies
Receive and unload freight both manually and with equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks
Inspect the condition of goods upon their arrival and record any damage on the bill of lading or reject the goods outright
Verify and log record the type, quantity and condition of items in each shipment against their orders in company software, Excel and other communications tools
Route incoming deliveries to the appropriate departments
Participate in Monthly review. update of physical inventory count and validate against records.
Keep working areas and storage locations clean and organized at all times.
Assist when requested to help maintain materials handling equipment (MHE)
Understand and comply with all safety operating rules and policies of the company
REQUIRED PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
Drive a company van for pick-up and delivery of good
Work in both shop and office environments
Withstand exposure to shop elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, odors, fumes, and grease. May also be exposed to slippery or uneven walking surfaces.
Able to work on feet, walk, stand, climb, stoop, bend, kneel, reach, lift heavy objects and carry them repeatedly throughout the work day
Work indoors but occasionally outdoors, work around moving objects and vehicles, and work on ladders and scaffolding
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED / Associates Degree preferred
Valid Virginia, DC or MD Driver’s License (without a bad driving record)
Prior experience with shipping, receiving, and warehouse operations preferred but not mandatory
Experience driving a forklift and electric pallet jack is a plus
Ability to problem-solve and deal with an array of variables in a time-sensitive environment
Ability to work independently and multi-task, but must also have excellent collaborative skills
