JOB SUMMARY
Billow’s Funeral Homes and Crematory has served the Summit County, Ohio area with excellence in burial, cremation, funeral, and memorial services since 1875. Family-owned and operated, our team supports a crematory and three funeral homes located in Fairlawn, Cuyahoga Falls, and Kent.
Billow's is seeking a bookkeeper/staff accountant who takes tremendous pride in Billow’s mission of serving the community with a tradition of dignity and respect. As a member of the office team, the primary responsibilities include completing payments by receiving, processing, verifying, and reconciling invoices in a timely matter. The position is also responsible for maintaining the general ledger by computing, classifying, and recording numerical data with the highest level of accuracy and integrity; ultimately contributing to the overall maintenance of accurate accounting records.
This is a full-time, permanent position that will be regularly scheduled to work 40 hours per week at the company main office which is co-located at the Fairlawn funeral home location. Occasional local travel to the Cuyahoga Falls location may be required as needed.

JOB FUNCTIONS
- Compiles and sorts documents, such as invoices and checks, substantiating business transactions.
- Verifies and posts details of business transactions, such as funds received and disbursed. Totals accounts to ledgers or computer spreadsheets and databases.
- Audits invoices against purchase orders, research discrepancies, and approves payments.
- Computes and records charges, refunds, cost of lost or damaged goods, freight charges, rentals, and similar items.
- Prepares accounts receivable records and invoices for timely and accurate distribution to client-families for payment. Manages discounts and other related invoicing details.
- Prepares vouchers, invoices, checks, account statements, reports, and other related records. Reviews documents and records pro-actively for accuracy.
- Reconciles general ledger accounts with registers and extracts general ledger information.
- Compiles cost reports and revenue and balance sheets.
- Reconciles bank statements.
- Monitors loans, accounts payable and wholesale accounts to ensure that payments are up to date.
- Proactively identifies and reconciles report discrepancies.
- Codes data for input to financial data processing system according to company procedures.
- Reviews, balances, and interprets computer reports and makes corrections as needed.
- Assists employees, vendors, clients, or customers by answering questions related to accounts, procedures, and services. Escalates appropriately to upper management when needed.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Must be comfortable working in an office setting within a funeral home environment.
- This role requires a high level of professionalism with client-families at all times. This includes verbal and written customer service excellence, positive and empathetic problem solving, as well as telephone, email, and written communications etiquette.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Associate's degree or equivalent in Business or Accounting is required. Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field is a plus.
- A minimum of three (3) years of related business/accounting/AP/AR experience.
- Strong attention to detail and strong mathematical skills.
- Prior QuickBooks experience is required, preferably Desktop.
- A proven track record of being a reliable team-player with a strong work ethic.
