Colonial Life is headquartered in Columbia, South Carolina with over 40 field offices nationwide.General Summary:Provides general communications support and counsel for the development and implementation of integrated communication plans designed to promote Unum’s corporate brand, protect its reputation and inspire key audiences to act by delivering the right message at the right time in the right way.Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Perform a variety of communications tasks related to internal and external communications.

Bridge commonalities and strategies across the communications space to help drive consistency and efficiency

Independently develop communication content and communication project plans within standards for assigned projects.

Serve as communications consultant to manage content for communications business partners and project teams.

Collaborate, communicate, and negotiate with cross functional partners with content management and delivery supporting corporate business objectives.

Regularly interact with C-Suite / senior leadership and draft organizational announcements as requested.

Draft and edit articles, social media posts, scripts, talking points, presentation materials, and more as requested for corporate, business or functional purposes. Must be able to work with confidential and time sensitive information

May perform other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications

Bachelor’s degree in public relations, journalism, communications, or English

3+ years prior professional communication experience is preferred

Must possess solid written and verbal communications skills and content judgment

Must possess strong PowerPoint skills or similar presentation software experience.

Knowledge of designing and supporting digital and/or web-based communication tools (e.g., SharePoint, WordPress, Mailchimp, Emma) preferred

Must be familiar with the creation and development of electronic publications.

Experience with Adobe Creative Suite preferred.

Knowledge of web-based communication tools (SharePoint).

Strong project management and strategic thinking skills, with a high-level of initiative

Must have demonstrated, through previous positions, an ability to meet deadlines

Must be able to work successfully with a wide variety of internal audiences and business partners, as well as have the ability to simultaneously contribute to multiple projects
