Due to COVID-19, FUTURES is requiring employees to provide proof of full vaccination. The position will be a combination of in-office and remote work based on FUTURES current hybrid work policy, which requires employees to be onsite 50% time.

Futures Without Violence (“FUTURES”) is a national non-profit social change organization that works to end gender-based violence against children, youth, and adults around the world. We’re a team of educators, strategists, fundraisers, trainers and grassroots organizers who develop programs that can change social norms, advance policy, and mobilize people to prevent violence. Through the creation of innovative programs, FUTURES has provided national leadership in efforts to improve systemic, community, and individual responses to domestic and sexual violence, stalking, trafficking, and other forms of violence and trauma impacting individuals, families, and communities.

DEPARTMENT & POSITION: The Program Specialist will provide programmatic support for the Public Education Campaigns & Programs Department of FUTURES. The Department is a global leader in developing solutions for broad-based social norm change with extensive efforts engaging men and boys to end gender-based violence, preventing teen dating abuse, and pioneering strategies to end relationship and sexual abuse on college campuses to name few.

Specifically, the Program Specialist will work on the Coaching Boys Into Men, Team: Changing Minds, and Engaging Campus Men programs. In addition, the Public Education Campaign & Programs Department works extensively with the Communications and Development/Public Engagement teams in message building, curriculum development, and production (e.g., PSAs, public relations, social media outreach, visual/copy design, filming/photography/editing), reaching diverse audiences from athletic coaches and school counselors, to teens and parents.

Core competencies include:

training on gender-based violence prevention

expertise on gender norms and masculinity

community organizing and relationship management

target/audience insight and segmentation

media planning and strategy; message/concept design

communications vehicle (e.g., radio, social media) expertise

qualitative/quantitative testing knowledge; campaign production; and measurement

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Constituency Building & Outreach:

Build and maintain relationships collaborating with partner organizations for effective project design and implementation.

Respond to requests for assistance from the public and work with local advocates to provide strategic aid to communities, organizations, and institutions on related program issues.

Conduct surveys, interviews and other forms of communication with program participants.

Aid Development and Policy teams with action alerts, database management, and maintenance.

Manage occasional mailings to constituents, funders, community advocates, and other supporters.

Program Implementation:

Implement comprehensive initiatives that include public awareness building, social marketing, training (delivery), community organizing, and policy/advocacy work.

Develop/compile written content and present on behalf of departmental campaigns and programs.

Generate program content for website, social media, and other platforms across departments as needed.

Support website strategy implementation and management of multiple FUTURES’ sites.

Research new engagement strategies and emerging issues/trends uncovering opportunities for the organization and the field at large.

Strong use of technology and social media to engage the public on issues of social justice.

Administrative Coordination:

Lead daily administrative work that supports program decision-making and operations.

Prepare agendas, meeting notes, written draft and final versions of correspondence, data reports, advocacy updates, announcements, contracts, and other written materials.

Coordinate and attend meetings, education/training conferences, and other events.

Assist with timely grantee reporting and delivery of other reports requested by funder.

ADDITIONAL JOB REQUIREMENT:

Located in San Francisco Bay Area, with a Hybrid schedule (2-3 days in office) expectation.

Travel to attend meetings, presentations and events outside the office, which may require use of a motor vehicle or airplane for transportation.

Essential functions of the position require use of a cell phone, a standard computer, and the ability to follow reasonable ergonomic recommendations.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

We’re seeking a well-organized, detail-oriented and flexible professional who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and enjoys working with a collaborative team coupled with independent work Our ideal candidate has:

Bachelor’s degree + a minimum of 3 years related work experience or equivalent combination of education/training and work experience (7 years combined)

Experience working with:

Social justice education and organizing, preferably with youth or college-age populations and boys/men

Community-based organizations, preferably organizations serving survivors of domestic and sexual violence and/or human trafficking

Communications, journalism, marketing, or public relationships firms

Superior written and verbal communication skills

Experience utilizing various social media platforms to engage the public on social justice issues.

Highly creative, entrepreneurial, and detail-oriented professional who works as successfully independently as well as part of a diverse team of dedicated professionals;

Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to exercise effective judgment in a highly visible role.

Demonstrated skills in building cross-sector community partnerships or community organizing;

Researching and synthesizing best practices to create accessible resources/tools;

Flexibility, and the ability to multi-task and prioritize competing deadlines;

Commitment to social justice causes with an emphasis on preventing and ending domestic and sexual violence and harassment, and promoting racial and gender justice and equity;

Superior attention to detail and command of contemporary computer skills including Microsoft Office suite, Canva, Zoom meeting and other web-based meeting platforms and/or customer-relationship management (CRM) and learning management systems.

Salary and Benefits:

This is a full-time, non-exempt position. The pay rate for this position is $75,000 annually. This salary is based on a standardized compensation structure that is transparent across the organization, and is non-negotiable but eligible for step increases in future years. FUTURES offers excellent medical, dental, and vision coverage, plus tax-advantaged Flexible Spending Arrangements for Health Care and Dependent Care.
