Auto Repair Shop Expeditor/Shop Helper
Oregon, Portland , 97201 Portland USA

Compensation:$20 - $25 depending on experience

Full Time position

Tom Dwyer Automotive Services is a progressive, community-oriented, ecologically responsible, full-service, multi-carline automotive service facility that has represented integrity and quality for over 40 years. We certainly care about profit, but we aren’t a profit-driven shop. Tom believes top-quality service with our CLIENTS’ INTERESTS FIRST attracts and keeps the long term, happy clients we need to prosper. We demand excellence from everyone on our staff, but we return that commitment with the respect they’ve earned. This philosophy has made us the largest independent auto repair shop in Portland, and now we’re adding to our team.

We are currently looking for an expeditor to assist the shop in the final check of all vehicles that run through the shop. When a technician is done with the repair, the expeditor does a final quality control check on the vehicle, which includes a road test, checking lights, tires and fluids. If needed you will change out bulbs, top off fluids and adjust air pressures. You will also be in charge of getting all the vehicles inside the shop at night and assist with the day to day closing of the shop. Parking lot management is also an important part of this job, as well as other inventory management duties. Automotive industry experience is preferred but not required. We would like a high-functioning person who can communicate verbally and in writing, and who possess basic computer skills. You’ll need a clean driving record (MVR) and be insurable by our liability insurer. You should be comfortable working on a team, but be able to think on your feet and be self-directing enough to require minimal supervision after training. This position can pull you in many different directions at times, so multi-tasking ability is required. Ability to maneuver vehicles in tight spaces is a must. We’re looking for people ready to commit to the auto industry and our company in particular for years to come. For the right person, this position could lead to a technician job. We have many years of experience and knowledge in the shop, and we are willing to train the right person.

We want careful, conscientious employees who care for our clients like they’d care for their own friends and family, so our schedule and pay are designed to let you do the thorough, quality work you got into the industry to do. We believe Commission and Flat-rate pay blur the line of honesty and create a competitive ‘every-tech-for-themselves’ mentality, so our Advisors and Technicians are all paid hourly. Even more importantly, we respect, appreciate, and encourage our people. We know how hard they’ve worked to learn their trade so we try to build an environment where they can do their best work. You’ll never be asked to hurry through a job to meet book time or perform an unneeded service of any kind. You’ll be part of a team of ASE-Certified and ASE-Master-Certified Technicians who will help you figure out problems and expand your own skills. Our staff faces the lowest stress levels in the business because our philosophy is ‘more cars, less deadlines’. We work by appointment and most of our clients drop their vehicles off for the day, so there are no will-wait brake jobs or will-wait diagnosis. We demand a job done right so we give you the time and money to do it right.

A company with a 40-year track record means stability so we, and your job, will be here tomorrow. This is a full time position, If you have particular schedule issues (like day care maybe?) let us know, and we can even be flexible. Pay ranges from $20 to $25 HOURLY depending on experience.

If you think you can contribute to the Tom Dwyer team, please DO NOT CALL OR COME BY THE SHOP. Send an email (or old-fashioned letter) with a resume (if you have one) explaining your experience level and why you want to come work with us. If you don’t meet the exact job criteria then please still send a resume anyway! We have our preferences, but if you think you could make a contribution to the team then we’re interested in hearing from you.
