Opportunity:

The Assistant Choir Conductor will play an important role in helping to support the choir director to lead our choirs, aligned with our mission of inclusivity, empowerment and joy in singing. This position offers a unique opportunity to work with a dynamic and diverse group of over 100 choir members, contributing to a collaborative, supportive, and innovative environment. The ideal candidate will be positive, supportive, and eager to learn, demonstrating a passion for fostering a positive and engaging choir experience for all. Prior choir conducting experience is not required; we will train the right candidates who have transferable vocal, musical and leadership skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Musical and Instructional Leadership:

Lead and assist in choir rehearsals, ensuring a collaborative and inclusive environment.

Learn and assist with harmony arrangements and practice audio files.

Encourage choir members to feel comfortable and expressive, fostering a joyous and dynamic atmosphere.

Promote a sense of community and collaboration within the choir.

Provide constructive and compassionate support to choir members, particularly those with less confidence or experience.

Communicate regularly with the choir director and assistants regarding schedules, updates, and important information.

Learn and incorporate vocal technique exercises to help singers improve their skills.

Help lead icebreakers and group warm-up activities.

Assist with conducting the choir and live band at the end-of-season performance.

Organizational Support and Administrative:

Maintain professionalism and excellence, handling feedback positively and using it for continuous improvement.

Actively participate in regular training sessions and team meetings.

Attend and assist with organization-wide events and sectional rehearsals.

Qualifications:

Passion for music and singing.

Confidence in singing and demonstrating various vocal parts.

Previous experience in conducting or leading musical groups is a plus, but not required.

Openness to learn, and a growth mindset (there will be in-depth training).

Ability to learn and teach harmonies by ear.

Ability to lead a large group with humor and confidence, maintaining a productive, yet also fun, rehearsal experience.

Eagerness to grow in the role.

Positive-attitude, compassion, and respect in all interactions.

Clear, kind, and assertive communication.

Reliability and dependability.

Emotional intelligence and understanding of how to empathize and work with a variety of learning types and personalities.
