Description We are seeking an In House Counsel with Commercial Real Estate experience in Charleston, South Carolina. This role chiefly involves working on commercial and residential real estate matters, as well as advising on various legal issues related to the organization's operations. Handle commercial and residential real estate matters including purchase/sale agreements, easements, and development of large parcels for various uses. Conduct due diligence in acquisition and sale of property, closing of sales, and filing of real property tax exemptions. Deal with condemnation matters, leases, zoning issues, and title review. Develop, review, and negotiate service, product, loan and other contracts with third parties. Advise on school legal matters, employment contracts, and First Amendment and religious exemption matters. Respond to subpoenas to various entities within the organization. Advise on legislative matters affecting the organization and its affiliates. Create new organizations under the organizational umbrella and advise on corporate governance documents. Work with and manage outside counsel on various matters including tax-related issues, estate and trust matters, and litigation. Review endowment and gift documents, and advise on litigation matters. Review and advise on press releases and provide crisis management advice.Requirements Possession of a valid license to practice law in the applicable jurisdiction A minimum of five years of experience practicing law, preferably within a non-profit setting Proven expertise in Commercial Real Estate and Real Estate Law Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate legal concepts to non-legal colleagues Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities Ability to manage a high-volume workload and balance competing priorities effectively Demonstrated commitment to ethical standards and professional responsibility Proficiency in using legal research tools and software Familiarity with non-profit industry regulations and compliance requirements Ability to provide strategic legal advice and guidance at all levels of the organization Willingness to continuously update knowledge and skills in line with changes in law and the non-profit sector.
