POSITION PURPOSE Research in the Savan laboratory is focused on understanding human genetic variations and RNA-regulatory mechanisms to gain insights into the heterogeneity in immune responses against viral infections. The main interest is to identify functional variants found in the coding and non-coding regions that determine susceptibility or resistance to life-threatening viral infections.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 20% - Prepare laboratory reagents, conduct Inventory, order, and restock laboratory supplies.
10% - Drafting Biological Use Authorization approvals for BSL1, BSL2, and BSL2+ pathogens and preparing the lab for inspections for BSL1, BSL2, and BSL2+ spaces.
10% - Onboarding research personal, training new and existing personal on safety protocols, including biological and chemical safety.
10% - Basic molecular biology including miRNA extraction and quantification, mutagenesis, luciferase assays, transfection of plasmids/siRNAs/miRNA, nucleofection, western blotting, plasmid cloning, and qRT-PCR.
10% - Multicolor flow cytometry, image-stream, and immunofluorescence microscopy.
10% - Perform genomic techniques such as ChIP seq, ATAC seq, and RNA-seq library preps.
10% - Organize research data.
10% - Guides the work of undergraduate employees.
5% - Participates in laboratory meetings.
5% - Perform related duties as required.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or related field with one year of experience with molecular biology techniques including miRNA extraction and quantification, mutagenesis, luciferase assays, transfection of plasmids/siRNAs/miRNA, nucleofection, western blotting, plasmid cloning, and qRT-PCR, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. Additional Requirements:
Experience in genomic techniques such as ChIP seq, ATAC seq, and RNA-seq.
Well versed in flow-cytometry and image stream assays and subsequent downstream analyses.
Experience with Microsoft Office Excel for data reporting and experimental calculations.
Must achieve deadlines and specified project milestones in an efficient manner.
Highly motivated and able to work in a team environment within a laboratory setting. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Two years of experience with molecular biology techniques including miRNA extraction and quantification, mutagenesis, luciferase assays, transfection of plasmids/siRNAs/miRNA, nucleofection, western blotting, plasmid cloning, and qRT-PCR.
