The role is for a subject matter expert experienced in leading, developing, managing, and implementing electrical construction and commissioning personnel, tools, work processes, and strategies to deliver safety and quality installation, commissioning, and initial start-up of low, medium, and high voltage electrical systems for industrial capital projects. The candidate will work closely with commissioning, Product Delivery Organization electrical engineering, Operations electrical engineering, and construction teams for the successful execution of projects ranging from several million to >$1B. The position also has responsibility for the Instrument / Controls and Machinery teams, providing guidance and leadership to the roles.This position will provide leadership, experience, and oversight to identify and implement work processes, industry standards, training, and overall competency development of the electrical, instrument and controls, and machinery commissioning team within the Product Delivery Organization Americas Commissioning & Startup group.The ideal candidate will have extensive industrial electrical engineering experience, knowledge in instrumentation and controls and machinery, construction and commissioning experience in oil, gas, power, chemical, or similar process industries, and a proven track record of implementing industry-safe practices. The Commissioning & Start-up Team supports the safe and efficient commissioning and start-up of Green/Blue H2, Carbon Capture, Gasification, Ammonia, and Cryogenic technologies (Air Separation, Syngas Distillation, Hydrogen liquefaction). The Commissioning & Start-up Team is responsible for all commissioning and start-up projects in the Americas region and can be involved in certain projects globally.
Key Job Responsibilities:Ensure the safety of all site personnel by using the Air Products Basic Safety Practice program, which includes Safety Work Permits, LOTO, Confined Space, etc. The position provides commissioning and startup support for coordinating, executing, and auditing the safety systems, to build the Air Products safety culture into the site organizations being supported.Mentor site Electrical leads, ensuring commissioning activities are carried out according to Air Products safety procedures and that KPIs are met or exceeded.Drive BSP and promote electrical safe working practices for contractors as well as all members of the site team.Drive the implementation and enforce the Air Products electrical isolation, LOTO procedures, and safety work permits associated with the construction, commissioning, and operation of electrical and instrumentation systems.Participate and provide technical guidance for RCA's as required.Identify and escalate issues with equipment that could ultimately affect operator safety and plant reliability.Leadership, passion, and mindset for driving safety, health, and well-being culture, value of risk identification and avoidance, continuous improvement, value of tools and work processes, industry standards, and vision of construction strategies that deliver overall project execution and safety performance.Directly supervise and be responsible for electrical, instrument/controls, and machinery engineering and technician resources. Ensure work practices are ac ording to relevant industry and APCI policies and procedures.Provide guidance to the site leads for each discipline with collaboration from the construction/contractor leadership team members to turn over equipment for commissioning according to the agreed work scope and schedule. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills are required.Develop systems to gauge progress with each team and record non-conformance, and address these deficiencies promptly.Take accountability for the successful commissioning of the equipment and systems across the facilities for each project supported.Coordinate commissioning resources as required for proper checkout and energization of equipment.Collaborate closely with electrical engineering, operations teams, and 3rd party customers on integrated and advanced electrical commissioning engineering, design, and planning.Develop electrical commissioning strategies and packages for projects and develop E&I contracting strategies.Ensure machinery commissioning strategies and packages for projects are developed along with construction handover and inspection reports.Provide direct electrical engineering support for projects actively in electrical commissioning and startup, assisting field Q-EC electrical technicians with relay setpoints, motor starting, electrical equipment issues, evaluation of electrical test results, interpretation of installation drawings, standards & codes, electrical safety standards & codes, and acceptance testing standards & codes.Ability to implement electrical construction and commissioning best work processes and work with 3rd party vendors to support resource demands.Develop electrical construction packages and E&I contracting strategies.Manage the training and mentoring of the Air Products' qualified electrical commissioning (Q-EC) competency program.Coordinate pre-commissioning, acceptance testing, commissioning, energization, and functional testing procedures with vendors of new electrical equipment (i.e. LCI drives, high-voltage VFDs, H2 electrolyzers, partial discharge equipment, etc.).Experience with high-voltage energy isolations (HVEIC) as author, reviewer, and person executing the isolation & performing switching, as well as the removal of isolations.Participate with electrical engineering and procurement for vendor commissioning support, coordination, and support for supplier FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) activities, and project SAT (Site Acceptance Testing) activities- including equipment energization and first-time operation.Provide specific feedback and viable solutions to electrical engineering for implementation of Lessons-Learned items that will be integrated into front-end engineering and design.Provide guidance and mentorship to the Instrument and Controls team along with the Machinery team, ensuring safe work practices are followed leading to an efficient commissioning and startup of the units supported.Collaborate and align with Engineering and Operations counterparts, ensuring smooth transitions for each phase of the projects, from scope development to unit handover.
Minimum Hiring Requirements:An Electrical Engineering degree is required.Minimum of 25 years (total) of electrical field (operations), design, and engineering experience.Proven experience with electrical construction management, electrical acceptance testing, electrical commissioning & functional testing, and equipment energization.Proven record of success in safety, environmental, quality, and employee involvement.Demonstrated strong commitment to employee involveme
