POSITION TITLE: Associate Teacher, Kindergarten
FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt (Maternity Leave Coverage) January 2, 2025 - June 10, 2025
REPORTS TO: Associate Head of School
Position Summary:
The Riviera Ridge School seeks an motivated and engaging Kindergarten Associate Teacher to cover a maternity leave for the second half of the 2024-2025 school year.
The candidate should demonstrate the ability to collaborate with the classroom lead teacher to provide a student-centered classroom environment and positive learning experience, differentiate curriculum to meet the needs of all learners, as well as foster intellectual curiosity and critical thinking skills through individualized or small group instruction and collaborative group work.
QUALIFYING CHARACTERISTICS
Knowledge and understanding of and commitment to the school’s Mission, Vision & Core Values
Bachelor’s degree in Education or similar field required
State of California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, preferred
One to three years teaching experience at the elementary school level preferred, preferably in an independent school setting
Capable of teaching all subject areas (Reading, Writing, Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies) demonstrating a mastery of current pedagogy
A strong background in curriculum development and current best teaching practices, classroom management, socio-emotional learning and assessment
Strong knowledge of how to accommodate lessons and assessments for students with identified learning differences
Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational and presentation skills
Proven success at working collaboratively
Demonstrated facilitative skills and flexibility in working with a variety of faculty across the divisions
Collaborative and thoughtful ability to interact with students, parents, faculty and staff
Experience with a variety of technology in the classroom such as computers (Mac), digital projectors, document cameras, Interactive Whiteboards, iPads, and educational software and applications
Proficiency in Google Suite and Google Apps for Education
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Collaborate with the Lead Teacher on instructional planning, teaching, and student assessment.
Share responsibility, with the Lead Teacher, for maintaining the classroom environment (e.g. organizing materials, designing bulletin boards, setting up learning centers and work areas, and photocopying materials).
Promote student engagement in order to assess and encourage progress
Support and strengthen the learning capabilities of each student by adapting and accommodating the curriculum to students’ diverse learning needs
Maintain a healthy learning environment for the students in both the classroom as well as in specials classes and transitions by monitoring and managing student behavior
Collaborate with teachers within the division and cross-divisionally
Provide student supervision such as Lunch, Recess, Early Arrival and Dismissal – on a rotating basis
Model appropriate behavior in speech and actions
Be evaluated throughout the year through informal and formal classroom observation
Participate in the “life of the school” through service projects, assemblies, admissions events, mission related professional development and advancement events
Help move the initiatives of the School forward by serving on committees and lending expertise and voice
Attend professional development days, faculty and level meetings
Seek and take part in professional learning opportunities to enhance professional knowledge and educational training
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work in school environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts
Occasionally bend, stoop, and squat
May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time
Be able to occasionally lift up to 40 lbs.
Willing to work some evening and weekends for school related events or projects

This position is a temporary, full-time position. Pay is competitive and is commensurate with education, experience, and skills.
Salary Range - $50,000 - $65,000 depending on experience
