Housing Counselor
Summary of Position:
Under the direct supervision of the Housing Manager, the Housing Counselor is responsible for foreclosure counseling, conducting homebuyer education workshops, and other housing counseling as needed, including administrative responsibilities. This position requires the use of independent judgment and decision-making skills. At times, due to the heavy client workload and the sensitive issues of clients, this position requires excellent time management and stress management skills. Specific duties include the following:
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct and coordinate homebuyer and foreclosure education workshops
Pre-purchase and foreclosure prevention counseling
Communicate with participants, lenders, funders, investors, and others as needed
Contribute to grant reporting as needed
Meet individually with clients to provide education, guidance, and referrals
Maintain the database associated with housing counseling and homebuyer assistance
Attend training and classes accordingly
Comply with all requirements of grant contracts and agreements
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Must be bilingual in Chinese and English
At least two years of experience in housing counseling and/or knowledge of the mortgage sector
Ability to coordinate and teach homebuyer, financial, and foreclosure education workshops
Excellent case management skills and excellent customer service skills
Professional demeanor and networking skills
Computer skills, including Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and internet
Ability to manage time effectively, ability to work independently without close supervision
Ability to meet aggressive goals for the homebuyer and foreclosure prevention programs
Ability to manage a large and diverse pool of clients at different stages of the home buying and foreclosure process
Be available to work weekends and evenings as needed
