This position opens and closes our restaurants, cooks the food that our guests come here in search of, keeps the kitchens clean and stocked, works closely with their teammates, keeps pace, takes great pride in the products we prepare, and without them, we would never succeed in our mission of creating an excellent beer and food experience. Wages start at $16/hr + tips. Tips can vary depending on the season or the shift and are not guaranteed, but cooks on average made $29/hr in total compensation. Base wage increases can occur after training and hitting career pathing benchmarks. Benefits info below.
Our cooks are expected to possess a fundamental knowledge of our menu items and the ingredients that make up those items, and know and learn how to work safely. Cooks also jump on some light prep and help our dish staff keep this place clean, orderly, and well-stocked.
If you’ve worked in the back of the house before, that’s awesome. But if you haven’t, that’s awesome, too. We want to hear from you, either way. Fort George promotes from within, but we also train, re-train, and cross-train constantly. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Showing up! (Excellent attendance for shifts, trainings, scheduled employee meetings, and events / this is not going to be hard cause it’s a fun place to work and be)
Food Prep! (Preparing a variety of meats, seafood, poultry, vegetables, and other food items for cooking in our pizza oven, broilers, ovens, grills, fryers, and all kinds of other cool gadgetry )
More Food Prep! (Correctly preparing all food served following standard recipes and special diet orders / let’s get these hungry diners what they ordered and not kill them with allergens)
Cleaning! (Sanitizing and cleaning kitchen areas and equipment; this is a must)
Inventory! (Handling/storing/rotating properly; FIFO - you must know and love it) Machines! (taking care of our kitchen equipment is super important)
Accuracy! (Assuring accuracy for all portion sizes, cooking methods, and procedures helps feed people) Spaces! (Opening and closing restaurant spaces; no one likes to open after a lame close) Organizing! (Maintaining a safe, organized work environment means less stress for all)
Side Work! (Making sure to do shift change duties and par-level stocking to ensure a successful transition for the next shift / gotta help out our coworkers and set them up for success)
Security! (Making sure doors are opened when opening and locked when closing) Adapting! (Handling all the other things that come up; there’s gonna be things that come up) Looking Good! (Adhering to grooming and hygiene standards consistently cuz food safety)
Policies! (Adhering to all company policies, especially our safety, respectful workplace, and anti-harassment policies / Do you love policies? Lucky you, cause once you work here you can reference all policies in the employee policy manual)
Certifications! (Obtaining and maintaining all required certifications; we’ll help line you out)
DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
You must be 18 years or older (because knives and slicers are no joke).
Food! (Valid Food Handlers card - ability to obtain within 30 days from date of hire) Reading! (Ability to read labels on chemicals/equipment and read snarky/clever notes from coworkers) Communication! (Ability to communicate and exchange information with customers and coworkers)
Safety! (General knowledge of occupational hazards and safe operating procedures associated with essential functions of this position / be safe, protect the people, protect your coworkers and protect yourself)
Adaptability! (Must be able to adapt to frequent changes in workload and adjust priorities quickly as circumstances dictate / flexibility with your schedule, you might works days, you might works nights and you will most likely be working some weekends)
