Join Our Team

The Human Resources Department (County HR) is a team of 60+ employees who provide human resources and risk management services to 32 agencies, departments, and special districts that employ 4,700+ positions. As an integral part of the County HR team, the County Safety Manager leads a team of two professional and one technical support staff in the coordination of a broad range of diverse county-wide Occupational Health and Safety (OSH) and loss prevention programs and initiatives such as Construction Safety, Driver's Safety, Emergency Action Planning, Ergonomics, Hazard Communication, and Injury and Illness Prevention. The team provides consultation and training, working closely with agencies, departments, and special districts to develop and maintain operation-specific safety programs.

What You Bring

As our ideal candidate, you can adapt to changing environments and the organizational styles of a wide variety of clients, inviting them into collaborative conversations that work to improve workplace OHS. You are extremely familiar with current OHS practices and programs, especially Cal-OSHA regulations and compliance guidance. You also bring to this position your solid risk management skills and:

Ability to verbally and in writing explain complicated regulations and interpret them into appropriate safety programs

Multiple years of experience managing a broad range of OHS programs and implementing sustainable safety management systems

Sound judgment, and ability to assess risk and make recommendations on complex and sensitive issues, situations, and systems

Effective communication and presentation skills, in order to influence diverse groups of stakeholders

Experience working in a fast-paced environment that requires frequent shifting of competing priorities

Ability to "think on one's feet", problem-solve, and assess risk using limited information
