Job InformationOpen to the general public and any current Municipal employee.This position is represented by the Anchorage Police Department Employees Association (APDEA) Union and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the APDEA.DEPARTMENT: Anchorage Police DepartmentHOURS OF WORK: 4/10 shifts, days off vary LOCATION: 716 West 4th Avenue and 4501 Elmore Road Example of DutiesUnder general direction, the Police Clerk is responsible for extensive contact with the public, both in person and over the phone. Maintain working knowledge of community, municipal, and internal resources and route citizens appropriately. Take reports of crime over the phone and compose formal department police reports. Type and compose routine correspondence, various reports, letters, memorandum. Extensive data entry. Research and enter data from police reports and citations into various computer systems, including but not limited to Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN), National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and Records Management System (RMS). Coordinate with internal personnel and external agencies under time constraints to process arrests and charging documents. Perform cashiering functions and process all traffic citations. Process monetary entries for receipt of all monies for various types of permits, fees, reports. Provide court testimony as required. Perform other related duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / PreferencesHigh school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and two (2) years of clerical office experience.All applicants must possess and/or complete as a condition of employment:

Must possess the ability to type at a net speed of 35 WPM at time of hire.

Must possess a valid State of Alaska Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire.

Satisfactory drug screening at time of hire (does not apply to internal transfers).

Satisfactory national criminal background investigation (13 AAC 85.010, and 13 AAC 85.210) and financial review at time of hire.

Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN) / National Crime Information Center (NCIC) certification within thirty (30) days of hire.

Satisfactory Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) background check at time of hire. Alaska Police Standards Council (APSC) and Anchorage Police Department standards regarding misdemeanor and/or felony convictions, traffic violations, and use of controlled substances.

Must be able to perform all functions of a police clerk or senior police clerk (for internal candidates only).PreferenceExperience in greeting the public, receiving complaints, answering questions, responding to calls and/or transferring calls. Experience in handling cash and keeping a cash journal for receipts of transaction. Additional Important InformationPreference will be given to Anchorage Police Department (APD) employees. APD employees who are successful in the screening process will be forwarded to the department for consideration prior to any non-APD applicants.The APD Internal Selection Process will be utilized. The Basic Selection Process includes evaluating and confirming applicant information and developing a ranked list by the following factors:

Oral Board (minimum 60% passing score).

Discipline Review (For internal candidates only).

Secondary Discipline Review will occur at time of transfer. (For internal candidates only. The list will be re-ranked, if necessary, to account for both new discipline and expired discipline.)

The eligibility list for the Records Discovery Clerk assignment is good for one (1) year from the date following the conclusion of the selection process, when the Certified Eligibility List is published (for internal candidates only). Successful applicants will be invited to test. Testing will include satisfactory passing of: Nelson/Denny Comprehension Exam and an Oral Board. The test scores/results may be used when applying for other positions within APD. Current APD Employees who have previously passed, are exempt from the Nelson Denny Comprehension Exam.If selected for hire, appointment to this position will be conditional based upon satisfactory passing an extensive background and financial check, and a drug screen.If selected for hire, appointment in this position requires Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN) security clearance and access, and also FBI National Crime Information Center (NCIC) security clearance and access within thirty (30) days of hire. If the individual selected for this position fails to obtain these clearances and accesses within thirty (30) days of hire, he/she will be terminated.All required licenses and certifications must remain current for the duration of employment.The Municipality of Anchorage participates in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security E-verify Program.
