The San Francisco Conservatory of Music is looking for our next Human Resources Manager. Candidates considering this position are HR Generalists who have a strong passion for HR with an orientation towards HR systems and other information management systems and the capacity to identify and implement process improvements in collaboration with the AVP of HR and Administration and other departments. Working with the AVP of HR and Administration and other relevant departments, the incumbent will research and implement best practices for employee onboarding and offboarding and employee HR and Payroll file management in the digital age. In addition, the incumbent will project manage recruitment efforts, facilitate and develop employee training programs, oversee benefits administration and ensure basic compliance with local, state and federal laws. Job DutiesProject manages the process for recruiting new staff employees to SFCM in collaboration with hiring managers, which may include drafting job descriptions, posting job ads, screening candidates and scheduling panel interviews. Collaborates with the Office of the Dean on faculty searches and provides support where needed.Project manages and updates the online onboarding process as needed for staff, faculty and student employees. In particular, the incumbent will research and implement best practices for the timely onboarding of student employees, substitute faculty, and musicians to ensure timely I-9 verifications and payments. Ensures background checks are performed for all new staff and faculty as well as student workers who work with our Pre-College Division and/or work at the Bowes Center for Performing Arts and as needed, researches vendors who provide this service in efforts to improve this process. Produces reports and analyzes data as needed for internal use and for submission to local, state and federal agencies. Collaborates with AVP of HR & Administration, Office of the Dean, and other managers to develop internal HR-related employee training programs and works alongside hiring managers to ensure solid orientation and onboarding programs for new employees.Monitors the assignment and completion of mandatory training programs and improves the system for documentation of such training; helps to oversee the timely delivery of mandatory notices to new hires and current and former employees as mandated by federal and local laws.Collaborates with the Office of the Dean and Payroll to review faculty contacts and faculty load reports to ensure accurate and timely payments.Conducts monthly reconciliation of employee benefit contributions to insurance bills for medical, dental, vision, voluntary life, AD&D, and other insurance products.Collaborates with the AVP of HR & Administration, IT Services, Payroll, and other relevant departments to identify and implement best practices for maintaining employee files in the digital age. Serves as first-tier point-of-contact for employee relations concerns. Represents HR on various committees as assigned. As needed, plans employee events such as the faculty & staff holiday party, service award lunch, and staff & faculty in-service day.Performs other duties as required. A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is desirable.PHR and/or SHRM-CP certification or other certificate establishing a commitment to HR learning is desirable. A minimum of five years of HR experience as a generalist.High level of proficiency working with databases, building and downloading reports with the ability to analyze data.Very strong attention to detail when analyzing and reviewing contracts, offer letters, faculty load reports and benefits invoices. Ability to maintain complex records with attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.Exercises discretion and professional judgment and knows when to escalate concerns to the AVP of HR & Administration.Commitment to working as a team and maintaining regular communication with AVP of HR & Administration, Business Office, Office of the Dean, Office of the President, and Academic Affairs, and other departments and divisions. Demonstrates initiative and ability to work independently and as part of a team.Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint as well as the equivalent programs in Google (e.g. Google Docs, Google Sheets, etc.) Excellent written and verbal communication skillsCompensationThis is a full-time exempt position. Salary commensurate with experience in a range starting at $90,000.
