American Style Diner on campus at UCSD is looking for an experienced Kitchen Manager to take over and build a team prior to Fall Semester. We are looking to fill this position immediately.

About the business:

Being on campus means we are busy when school is in session and very slow when they are not (July-September). Campus is extremely slow during these times which also includes the winter holiday break.

During summer months the hours are Monday - Friday 11am - 5pm. During this time you will be working by yourself in the kitchen as sales dictates labor. We run a limited menu during this time also. During these times this position will open/prep/cook/clean/close on their own (with help from manager during lunch rush).

During the busy times (Fall Semester, Winter Semester, Spring Semester) we are very busy with extended hours, M-F 8am - 9pm and Sat/Sun 11am - 6pm and menu (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner). We also are extremely busy with Catering during these times. Catering skills a plus.

Training will start immediately and soon we will be hiring a full staff for the upcoming fall semester through next spring. Position will include interviewing and hiring a qualified team which you will train on all menus.

This position will require the following skills:

-Experience running a kitchen and staff.

-Experience in hiring/training new hires.

-Experience in ordering food and supplies.

-Scheduling.

-Inventory.

-Cleanliness and organizational skills a must.

-ServSafe Certified a plus.

-Being self motivated and a team leader.

-Being able to hold standards and consistency to all direct employees.

-Being able to work long hours when necessary due to multiple caterings.

-Working independently as well as with a team.

-Showing a positive attitude at all times which in turn keeps a positive environment thriving.

-Showing respect to all co-workers, managers, etc

This position is full time and long term.

Parking will be paid monthly by us.

Compensation will include hourly pay, plus cash tips, plus commission from catering. This pay scale means your pay will go up and down throughout the year depending on how busy we are for catering (which is growing and very busy during certain months). Catering commission could easily add $4-$8 per hour during busy times.

Hourly pay will start at $24 and reviewed after 30 days could go to $25.

One shift meal is allowed.

Vacation pay will be considered after 90 days.

We pay what the business can afford and understand the struggles of the tines we are in.

This position is very easy and laid back for about 4-5 months a year and busy the other part.

This could be a great opportunity for someone who has the skills and knowledge but is stuck at their current job due to no room for advancement.
