Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

This position requires excellent attention to detail and prior legal experience to create accurate personal injury disbursement statements, to insure all individual clients, the Firm, and all co-counsel, including common benefit counsel are paid correctly and timely. This role reviews and audits personal and mass action settlements, attorney representation agreements, medical and other liens, case loans, time, fees, and expenses billed to the individual and common matter to create detailed disbursement statements and works closely with the Accounting department, Partners, and case teams to insure everyone is paid accurately and in a timely manner. This role reviews and audits all time, attorney and common benefit percentages, fees, expenses, medical liens, and case loans to ensure accuracy, consistency and compliance with court-ordered common benefit and individual settlement guidelines. As a member of the Paralegal Department, you would be responsible for accurately keeping all records and updating the database on a task by task basis. Ability to order all medical liens, and case loan documentation, and communicate directly with clients and co-counsel regarding needed documentation and payments. You will also help develop best practices, train new team members, and support the law firm in damages projections and analytics.

Qualified candidates must possess the following:

-5+ years of prior experience

-working knowledge and understanding of federal and state rules

-working knowledge and ability to navigate Federal and state dockets

-working knowledge and understanding of civil procedure

-ensure consistency and uniformity in the interpretation and application of court-ordered and settlement guidelines

-order, gather, and review all documentation of attorney percentages, time, fees, expenses, medical liens, and pre-settlement loans to ensure all disbursement entries comply with court-ordered and settlement guidelines.

-create detailed mass action and individual client disbursements statements

-coordinate directly with Partners and Accounting to pay clients, co-counsel, and the Firm.

-track all progress within the Firm’s database and keep accurate records off all payments.

-excellent attention to detail and superb organization and communication skills

-solid analytical, critical thinking and time management skills

-proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office, Excel and Outlook

-The ability and willingness to work in a challenging, rewarding, and fast-paced team work environment

-B.A./B.S. degree is required

Lieff Cabraser Heimann and Bernstein, LLP offers a competitive salary and benefits package and an opportunity to thrive in a dynamic firm environment. Hourly range of $49.50-$60 an hour, or $90,000-$110,000 when working a 35-hour work week, depending on qualifications and prior experience.
