If your people skills are as good as your puppy skills, then consider joining the team at Guide Dogs for the Blind (GDB) as a Puppy Raising Field Manager (PFM). This position is based remotely from the Tacoma, WA area and covers a regional territory that includes Tacoma and the surrounding areas, as well as clubs in Texas. In this role you will teach and apply the canine training and socialization skills needed to raise healthy, happy GDB puppies. It’s rewarding, hands-on work in the field, as you supervise and support a territory of puppy raising volunteers and approximately 75 dogs, evaluate their progress, and ensure that proper training is taking place.

We’ll also rely on you to identify, recruit, and train potential new puppy raising volunteers, as well as assist with fundraising, marketing, outreach, and public relations initiatives and events. This is a flexible, full-time position where you can work remotely from your home (based in the Tacoma, WA area), and travel within your territory depending on the needs. You will make your own schedule to best accommodate supporting volunteers in your territory, which will require travel within your territory, as well as further afield from time to time to support the team.

The qualifications you’ll need:

2+ years of professional experience conducting dog training, behavior modification and placement, as well as assessing dogs’ health, temperaments, and behaviors

Knowledge of canine behavior management, with the ability to assess and evaluate raisers to give them appropriate guidance

2+ years of supervisory experience or experience leading classes and instructing others is desirable

Demonstrated ability to recruit volunteers and identify potential programs and resources within their community

Valid driver’s license and insurability at non-risk rates

Canine behavior certification preferred (IAABC, ACAB, CCPDT, or KPA)

Pay Range:

$75K - $90K
