The Crops Cluster in the Department of Plant Science at The Pennsylvania State University seeks undergraduate students to assist in Forage and Corn Variety Trials. Typical duties for students will include assisting with day-to-day operations involved in the Forage and Corn Variety Testing Program, including but not limited to, seed preparation, planting, fertilization, harvest, and post-harvest cleanup. The interns will support the implementation of agronomic field trials on forage and corn crops. The interns are expected to ensure the safe operation of specialized equipment; collect data by measurement, samplings, and subjective assessments to evaluate forage and corn crops; prepare plant tissue and soil samples for lab analysis.Students studying Animal Science, Plant Science, Soil Science, Biology, Agriculture, Bioengineering, Biotechnology, Microbiology, or related areas are encouraged to apply. Experience with farm equipment and fieldwork is desired. The successful candidate will work up to 20 hours/week during the fall and spring semesters and 40 hours/week over the summer.The research assistants will work at Russell E. Larson Agricultural Research Center in Rock Springs, central PA, and other remote locations; relocation and housing are not provided.This job requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid US driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.The successful candidate will work with Dr. Guojie Wang.
