HVAC Field Supervisor
JOB SUMMARY:
The Field Area Supervisor leads the team of Technicians who are responsible for the safe, productive, and efficient operations of the field technicians within their respective team. Through forward thinking visualization and project site work process improvements and hands on training, improve the quality and productivity of United Mechanical Technicians. Provide guidance and developmental instruction to Lead Technicians and personnel assigned to their group assuring divisional goals and objectives are attained.
This position shall incorporate the United Mechanical Vision and Business Strategy by providing “Proactive World Class Service” to the markets served, based on Profitability, Credibility, Employee Base Environment, Customer Service and Quality.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Assist Service Manager in the annual performance review process of all Technicians.
2. Provide guidance and direction to Technicians to meet the objectives of the HVAC Group
3. Act as a point of contact between Technicians and Service Manager
4. Provide written disciplinary recommendations where and when necessary. Document to employee file.
5. Maintain a safe and clean working environment by developing and enforcing departmental policies and standards.
6. Conduct daily discussions with Technicians as necessary.
7. Strive to promote productivity within the department through interaction with the technical staff.
8. Conduct periodic site inspections to ensure quality and customer satisfaction.
9. Review the daily work schedule for the field personnel within the Team with the Service Coordinators for refinement of assignment. Communicate with Service Coordinators on needed assignment changes.
10. Maintain open lines of communication with the service manager, field personnel, engineering staff, salesman, sub-contractors, and our customers.
11. Work with Service Manager to acquire training needed for technicians, technicians and the Field Area Supervisors.
12. Work with technicians to master the “Mobile Tech” program and comply with all training requirements. Verify pictures of nameplates on all maintained and replaced equipment are taken and uploaded to Mobile Tech.
13. Provide any necessary support from our field personnel required to complete and close all projects.
14. Ensure communication between Field Supervisors, Service Technicians, and customers are of the highest standards.
15. Perform Mechanical Services work as needed.
16. Operate a company vehicle according to the standard and policies of the company.
17. This is a non-exempt position. Working in excess of 40 hours a week qualifies as overtime and is required in this position.
18. Provide after hours technical support for field technicians.
19. Other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
1. Comprehensive knowledge of the principles of HVAC equipment, systems maintenance of complex commercial and industrial heating and air conditioning systems and operations.
2. Thorough knowledge of OSHA regulations related to the HVAC trade. OSHA 30 certification required.
3. Ability to interpret schematics
4. Ability to read and understand manufacturer’s recommendations as to operations and maintenance of large equipment and systems.
5. Ability to make decisive independent decisions
6. Ability to maintain detailed records of work performed.
7. Ability to analyze and prepare documents, reports, and correspondence.
8. Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
9. Ability to operate computer with general understanding of application software, and an understanding of the internet.
10. Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
11. Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in HVAC systems.
12. Organizational skills in managing projects simultaneously while maintaining a satisfactory work product.
13. Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
14. Skill in monitoring/assessing the performance of self, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.
15. Skill in performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
16. Skill in the use of standard office equipment and software.
SUPERVISOR RESPONISIBILITY
1. Assists with the overview of United Mechanical Team members in the field.
2. Perform technicians’ evaluations.
3. Provide all required supervision.
4. Provide customer service as needed.
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
The employee must be available to work various shifts Monday through Friday with a minimum of 40 hours each week, plus occasional weekends, and weekday evenings may be required as job duties demand. The Field Area Supervisor must be available when off hours work is being performed for technical support.
TRAVEL
This position requires local travel during the scheduled workday.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at the manufacturing site. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This position is often performed in outside weather conditions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Ability to lift 75 lbs. several times a day.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
1. High School Diploma or equivalent necessary
2. Minimum of 10 years’ experience working in the HVAC trade.
3. Universal EPA certification
4. Valid Driver’s License
